Long-Term Goals
The ECTA is committed to the development and long-term maintenance of 520 kilometers of hiking trails, comprising:
Queens River Before the Bridge (credit Darlene Scott)
- 420 km of coastal pathways beginning at Topsail Beach in Conception Bay, and following the eastern edge of the Avalon Peninsula to Cape Race, and terminating in Trepassey.
- 90 kilometers of the D'Iberville Trail, crossing the Avalon Wilderness Area from Ferryland to Placentia, connecting Lord Baltimore's Colony of Avalon to historic Placentia.
- 30 kilometers of the Masterless Men Path, an inland route, linking Ferryland and Renews on the Southern Shore.
Parallel goals include:
- Securing the right-of-way and buffer zone required to protect and guarantee the long-term existence and health of the East Coast Trail.
- Raise the funds required to: develop, maintain, enhance and preserve the Tral.
- Produce guidebooks, maps and interpretive signage.
- Provide education programs.
- Support our growing membership and volunteers.
- Work with our communities and businesses in efforts to protect our environment and support our economy.
